Maeve McDowall
I have been a member of Inverurie Choral Society since it was a young choir in 1999, and I've been Chair since 2019. Irish heritage through both parents has meant a life-long and happy interest in music and singing. I was in every choir going at school, but took a step back from choirs in the 70s when studying and building my family. I fell heir to a great-uncle’s fiddle and started lessons in 1986 with Bert Morgan, of the celebrated Kemnay fiddling family. I now play enthusiastically but not all that skillfully with the Garioch Fiddlers. I also belonged to the Garioch Musical Society from 1981 until 1994, taking part in Musicals, Operettas and Choral performances. Inverurie Choral has had such a difficult time since the Covid19 pandemic really took a hold in March 2020. Every thing stopped, including our planned Handel/Stainer Come and Sing. I’ve been so grateful, over the two years since, to our Committee, Members and our Musical director Gordon Jack for their commitment and loyalty. So, we sang over Zoom. We made a couple of “virtual” recordings. We returned safely to live singing in August 2021. We’ve been lucky enough to welcome several new members since January 2022. And we took part in a fundraising for Ukraine in April 2022. it was great to sing for folk again! Personally, my aim is for our choir to flourish and move forwards, and I look forward to all the singing and performing we will be able to do together
