FAQs

Where and when do you rehearse?

We meet every Wednesday evening between 7.30-9.30pm at St Andrew’s Church, High Street, Inverurie AB51 3QJ.  The summer concert term runs from January to the concert in June and we then have a break during the summer before resuming rehearsals in mid August through to early December for our Christmas concert.

How do I get to St Andrew’s Church?

St Andrew’s Church is located near the centre of Inverurie on a main bus route and is just a short 10 minute walk from the train station.  There is ample car parking to the rear of the church and our rehearsals are held in the rear chapel which is accessed through the blue door at the side of the church.

How many people are in the choir?

We normally have about 30 people in our choir – but we always have room for more singers!

What sort of music do you sing?

We enjoy singing a variety of different music from classical to contemporary, no one term/concert is the same as another.  Check out Our Music section to find out more and have a look at some of our previous Programmes here.

Do I need to be able to read music to join?

No, its helpful but not essential to be able to read music.  If you have a feel for music and a willingness to learn you will get along fine – many of our pieces have practice tracks to help you learn the music which you can listen to at home (or work!).

How do I know which singing part to join?

We are a usually a four part choir with soprano, alto, tenor and bass sections.  If you’re unsure which part you should be singing, you can check with our Music Director who will be happy to help find the right place for you.  As a rough guide, singers are divided as follows:

  • sopranos – those who sing highest notes
  • altos – those who sing in a lower range
  • tenor – those who sing lower than altos, although they sometimes overlap
  • bass – those who are more comfortable singing in the lowest notes

Do I need to audition?

No, we are a non auditioned choir and welcome all.

What is the membership cost?

Our annual membership is £90 – this can either be paid as a lump sum at the start of August or in two equal instalments of £45 in August and January. Payments in monthly installments is also possible.

Can my family be involved?

Yes, of course. If they don’t want to sing with us, we are always looking for volunteers at our concerts and other events (and volunteers receive a free ticket to see us sing) – see our support us page for more information. Family members are also welcome at our social gatherings.

I’m ready to join, what do I need to do next?

Simply contact us to let us know that you’re coming along, and we’ll be ready to welcome you with a friendly face, a set of music and a place to sit.  We look forward to seeing you!
